High-end chips rely heavily on Broadcom, Mitsubishi and other US and Japanese companies. In the core construction cost of optical networks such as routers, base stations, transmission systems, and access networks, the cost of optical components accounts for 60-80%, and the core reason for the high cost of optical devices is that high-end chips cannot be completely localized and need to be imported. Therefore, high-end optical communication chips should become the key point for China's optical communications industry to overcome.

China's optical communications chip industry is relatively backward, both related to internal R&D capabilities and related to the external environment.

In terms of internal research and development, the optical communication chip is a highly integrated component, and its integrated components include lasers, modulators, couplers, beam splitters, wavelength division multiplexers, detectors, and the like. At present, there are two major types of chip packaging solutions in the industry, one is III-V and the other is silicon. The former is relatively mature and has a mature monolithic integrated solution. The latter's laser integration and packaging solutions. Still improving. China has a lack of comparison with foreign countries in the research and development, design, film processing and packaging of optical communication chips. In terms of the external environment, in the global electronic information industry, China is still a newcomer to the industry. (1) Communications giants have entered

Huawei, Fenghuo and other communications giants have invested heavily in optical communication chips, and companies such as ZTE and Datang have also been actively deploying in the near future.

As the leader in the domestic communications industry, Huawei is a relatively weak link in optical communications chips. Huawei is very optimistic about the optical communication chip market. As early as 2013, it acquired the optical communication chip battlefield through the acquisition of the Belgian silicon photonics company Caliopa, and later acquired the British photonics integration company CIP. So far, Huawei has invested in optical communication chips for five years.

In addition to Huawei, Fiberhome Technology is also very optimistic about the optical communication chip market, set up subsidiaries to develop optical communication chips. Guangxun Technology is one of the subsidiaries of FiberHome Technology. Its chip self-sufficiency rate is about 95%, but it is concentrated in the low-end chips. Feisiling Company invested in FiberHome Communications also focuses on chip development and design for optical communication system equipment and optical module devices. (2) Lasers, home appliances and other giants have also joined

One of the major advantages of domestic optical communication chips is that enterprises are at the same starting line. The future market depends on the current investment and efforts. Laser giant Huagong Technology and home appliance giant Hisense also joined.

Huagong Technology actively deployed in the field of optical communication chips, continuously improved the industrial chain, and established optical communication chip companies to enhance the research and development capabilities of high-end products. Huagong science and technology experts said that the company is stepping up research and development of core chips, and is now ready for mass production. It is expected that 5G application optical communication chips will be mass-produced in 2019.

As a giant in the domestic appliance industry, Hisense has a very early layout of optical communication chips. At the beginning of this century, Hisense conducted the layout of the optical communication business. In 2005, Hisense launched the world's first commercially available GPON module. Hisense also made breakthroughs in 100G PON optical module technology. In terms of capital operation, Hisense acquired the Japanese optical communication chip company and the US optical communication chip company to improve the industrial layout.

(C) many new faces join the chip melee

It is precisely because of the huge prospects of the industry that many emerging companies have also developed optical communication chips. For example, Solvay's 100Gb/s QSFP28 transceiver module combines performance and cost advantages. Yifei Yang has successfully developed the 100GQSFP28 optical module, and the 100GCFP-LR4 optical module has been commercialized.
